Group Classes
In a small group, you will dance patterns and variations based on your capabilities. In a relaxed and friendly setting, you will learn basic techniques of dance and characteristics of different dance styles. Classes are offered at different levels so that students are grouped with other students of similar ability.
“Basic”
In a Basic level class, you will learn the first steps in the dances listed on the calendar for that day. The class is designed to prepare you to begin to move around the floor when you use your newfound dances at events, on cruise ships, and especially at Savaria’s own dance parties. You will have a chance to dance with other people in the class, and are not required to bring a partner. Don’t fret about remembering all the steps all the time—there are no tests! Just bring your curiosity and your smile!**Some intermediate students may find it helpful to return to a Basic class at times in order to use the simpler steps to master technique.
“Bronze I”
The Bronze I class builds on the steps learned in the Basic classes. You will continue to learn dance patterns from the Bronze level (first level) of the ISTD syllabus. In addition to new dance steps, you will begin to learn a little bit of technique (technique is what makes your dancing easier to do and more impressive to watch!). You will also learn amalgamations (combinations) of steps that will help you to dance at events, on cruise ships, and especially at Savaria’s own dance parties.
“Bronze II”
The Bronze II class includes the remaining steps in the Bronze syllabus. You will work on some more complex variations on steps you learned in the previous levels. The instructor will focus more on technique than in the beginning levels, and you will learn a complete Bronze level dance that you can use at dance parties, in performance, or even in competition.
